When most people think of Arizona family photos, they picture saguaros, mountain views, and desert sunsets. While I absolutely love photographing families in the desert, there’s something so refreshing about finding a little pocket of greenery tucked away right here in Gilbert.
This sweet family session took place on a beautiful private property affectionately known as a little Patch of Paradise. With towering shade trees, lush green grass, friendly ducks wandering around, and the soft glow of golden hour, it felt like we had escaped Arizona for the evening.
Their little ones were completely captivated by the ducks, and honestly, that became one of my favorite parts of the entire session.
Rather than asking everyone to smile perfectly at the camera, we let the evening unfold naturally. The kids explored, laughed, chased ducks, snuggled their parents, and simply enjoyed being together. Those unscripted moments are always the ones families treasure most.

One of the questions I hear most often is,
“Do you have any locations that aren’t desert?”
The answer is absolutely.
While Arizona is famous for its desert landscapes, there are also beautiful green spaces throughout Gilbert, Mesa, Queen Creek, and the East Valley that create a completely different feel.

The result feels timeless, natural, and full of genuine connection.

One of my biggest goals during every family session is creating photographs that actually feel like your family.
Toddlers don’t need to sit perfectly still.
Babies don’t have to smile on command.
Kids are happiest when they can explore, cuddle, laugh, and play.
During this session, the ducks quickly became the stars of the evening. Watching the children light up as they met them created so many authentic moments that simply couldn’t be posed.
Those little interactions often become parents’ favorite photographs.
Soft neutral colors worked beautifully against all of the greenery.
Cream, white, denim, soft blues, and earthy neutrals photograph wonderfully in these settings because they complement the landscape without competing with it.
The combination of natural textures, barefoot moments, and simple clothing gives these images a timeless feel that won’t look dated years from now.
Golden hour is always my favorite time to photograph families.
About an hour before sunset, the light becomes soft, warm, and flattering while allowing children the freedom to move around without harsh sunlight.
Whether we’re photographing at a beautiful green property like this, the Riparian Preserve, Agritopia, or one of my favorite hidden East Valley locations, timing makes all the difference.

Gilbert has several beautiful locations for family photography, depending on the look you’re hoping for. If you love lush greenery, mature trees, and open grass, there are a handful of hidden gems throughout Gilbert that create a completely different feel than the Arizona desert. I also photograph families at Agritopia, the Riparian Preserve, nearby orchards, and beautiful desert locations throughout the East Valley.
Fall is the most popular season for family photos in Gilbert, but spring is equally beautiful with blooming trees, fresh greenery, and comfortable temperatures. Arizona also offers gorgeous golden sunsets well into the winter months, making family sessions possible nearly year-round.
Neutral colors like cream, white, soft blues, tan, olive, and earthy tones photograph beautifully outdoors. I recommend coordinating outfits instead of matching exactly and avoiding large logos or bright neon colors. Every booked family receives my detailed style guide to help make outfit planning simple.
Absolutely! Many of my sessions include toddlers and babies. Rather than expecting children to sit perfectly still and smile at the camera, I encourage movement, play, cuddles, and genuine interaction. Those authentic moments often become parents’ favorite photographs.
Most family sessions last between 45 and 60 minutes. This gives us plenty of time for a variety of posed portraits, candid moments, sibling photos, parent photos, and individual portraits without feeling rushed.
I photograph almost all outdoor family sessions during golden hour, which is the hour before sunset. This soft, warm light creates flattering skin tones, beautiful backlighting, and the timeless look you see throughout my portfolio.
Not at all! While I love photographing families in Gilbert, I also serve Mesa, Queen Creek, Chandler, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Apache Junction, Peoria, and families throughout the East Valley.
Yes! One of my favorite parts of planning a session is helping families find the perfect location. Whether you’re dreaming of desert mountains, lush greenery, orchards, lakes, or open fields, I’ll recommend locations that fit your family’s style and the season.
My approach is relaxed, natural, and connection-focused. I gently guide you into flattering poses while encouraging genuine interaction instead of stiff smiles. My goal is to create images that feel joyful, timeless, and true to your family.
Fall weekends often book several months in advance, especially October and November. If you’re hoping for holiday cards or seasonal family portraits, I recommend reserving your session as early as possible to secure your preferred date.
