Some of my favorite family sessions are the ones where we stop worrying so much about getting the “perfect” photo.
You know the one. Everyone looking directly at the camera, kids smiling on command, nobody moving, and somehow your toddler has decided that today is the day they’re going to sit quietly and cooperate for an entire photo session.
If you have a toddler, you already know how likely that is.
This Queen Creek family photography session was such a sweet reminder that we really don’t need any of that to create beautiful family photos. We had a gorgeous Arizona evening, an open field, mountain views in the distance, the sweetest little boy with plenty of personality, and their family dog along for the adventure.
We let their toddler explore. We played. We snuggled. We gave him space when he needed it. Instead of trying to force every moment into a pose, we let their family simply be together.
Those are always some of my favorite photos.
One of the things I love about photographing families in Queen Creek, Arizona is how much variety we have when it comes to outdoor locations.
Arizona is known for its beautiful desert, but there are also these pockets of greenery throughout the East Valley that photograph so beautifully. For this session, we had an open field with soft greenery, little pops of wildflowers, and mountains sitting off in the distance.
Add in that warm end-of-day light, and it was such a beautiful setting for family photos.
Locations like this are also perfect when I’m photographing families with young kids because there’s room to move.
We aren’t confined to one tiny spot where your toddler needs to sit and smile. We can walk around, explore, play on a blanket, snuggle with Mom and Dad, and see where the session takes us.
That freedom makes such a difference, especially with little ones. Ready to plan your family session? I’d love to hear from you! Click here.

I really want parents to hear this one:
Please don’t stress if your toddler won’t sit still.
I specialize in photographing families with toddlers, so I go into your session fully expecting your little one to act like a toddler.
They might be shy for the first ten minutes and then completely warm up. They may want Mom to hold them and then immediately want to get down. They might need a snack or suddenly become fascinated by a rock on the ground when we’re trying to take a family photo.
None of that means your session is going badly.
One of the quickest ways to make family photos stressful is expecting a toddler to do something that just isn’t realistic for their age.
Instead, I follow their lead as much as I can.
During this Queen Creek family session, we photographed their little guy being held by Mom and Dad, exploring on his own, sitting on a blanket with their dog, getting plenty of kisses, and simply taking in everything around him.
And we still got the classic family photos.
That’s something I wish more parents knew before coming into their session. Your toddler doesn’t have to cooperate perfectly for us to create beautiful images.
In fact, sometimes the things you’re worried will “ruin” your photos end up creating some of the sweetest moments.
That little hand reaching for you. The giant smile when Dad makes them laugh. The way they lean into Mom when they need a little reassurance.
That’s your child right now.
Those are the things I want to remember, too.
And of course, we have to talk about their sweet pup.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you can bring your dog to your family photo session, the answer is yes.
I’m a dog-friendly family photographer, and I love including pets in family sessions. If your dog is part of your everyday life, it makes complete sense to include them in your family photos.
And just like your toddler, your dog doesn’t have to behave perfectly either.
They might look at my camera. They might look at you. They might decide there is something much more interesting to sniff five feet away.
We work with it.
For this session, we were able to get photographs of everyone together and then give their pup some freedom while we focused on their toddler and different combinations of Mom and Dad.
I especially love the images of their little guy hanging out on the blanket with his dog. Those are the simple, everyday relationships that feel so normal while you’re living them but become incredibly special as the years go by.
If you’re looking for a dog-friendly family photographer in Queen Creek or the Phoenix East Valley, just let me know ahead of time that you’d like your pup involved. We can absolutely plan for it.

After everything I just said about candid family photos, I should probably add one thing:
We are still getting the grandma photo.
You know exactly which one I mean.
Everyone together. Looking at the camera. Smiling. The photo you can frame, put on the Christmas card, and send to the grandparents.
I want you to have that one.
But I don’t want that to be your entire gallery.
My goal during a family photography session is to give you a mix of classic portraits and the more natural moments that show your family’s personality.
We’ll get everyone together, but we’ll also photograph Mom with the kids, Dad with the kids, snuggles, kisses, movement, laughter, and those little in-between moments you couldn’t have planned if you tried.
That combination is what makes your gallery feel like your family instead of simply a collection of pretty pictures.
Outfits are one of the things families tend to stress about most before photos, and I completely understand why.
My biggest piece of advice is to coordinate without trying to match everyone exactly.
This family did that beautifully. Mom wore a gorgeous warm rust color that looked amazing against all of the greenery, while Dad wore navy and their little guy wore green and cream. Everything worked together without feeling overly matched.
For outdoor family photos in Queen Creek, earthy colors, neutrals, warm tones, and soft complementary colors tend to photograph beautifully against the Arizona landscape.
But I also want you to be comfortable.
You’re going to hold your kids. You may sit on the ground. We’ll walk, snuggle, play, and, yes, you may end up chasing a toddler at some point.
Choose clothing that makes you feel good while still allowing you to actually interact with your family. Ready to plan your Queen Creek photography session? I’d love to hear from you.

If there’s one thing I hope you take away from this session, it’s that you don’t have to wait until your family is easier to photograph.
You don’t have to wait until your toddler sits still.
You don’t have to leave your dog at home.
And you definitely don’t need everyone to behave perfectly.
This season—the busy, sweet, unpredictable one—is worth documenting, too.
I photograph families throughout Queen Creek, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Mesa, Gilbert, San Tan Valley, Apache Junction, Chandler, and the surrounding Arizona areas, and I love creating sessions where families can relax, connect, and actually enjoy being together.
This is one of the most common worries I hear from parents. I specialize in photographing toddlers and never expect little ones to sit still for an entire session. We’ll use movement, play, snuggles, breaks, and plenty of flexibility to work with your child rather than trying to force them into poses.
Absolutely. I’m a dog-friendly family photographer and love including pets in family sessions. Just let me know beforehand that your dog will be joining us so we can plan accordingly.
I love photographing outdoor family sessions around golden hour because the lower sun gives us that soft, warm light you see throughout this gallery. Exact session times vary depending on the season and location.
Think coordinated rather than matching. Choose a few complementary colors and mix different textures and tones. Most importantly, wear something you feel comfortable and confident in.
Yes. I photograph families throughout the Phoenix area and East Valley, including Scottsdale, Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Mesa, Queen Creek, Gilbert, San Tan Valley, Apache Junction, Chandler, and surrounding Arizona communities.
If you have a particular date or season in mind, I recommend reaching out early. Fall is an especially popular time for Arizona family photography, so booking in advance gives us more flexibility when choosing your date and location.
If you’ve been putting off family pictures because you’re worried there is absolutely no way your toddler is going to cooperate, please don’t let that stop you.
Bring the toddler. Bring the dog. Bring your family exactly as you are right now.
We’ll get the smiling-at-the-camera photo for Grandma, but we’ll also make space for everything else—the laughter, cuddles, tiny hands, kisses, and all of those wonderfully imperfect moments happening in between.
If you’re searching for a Queen Creek family photographer and want photos that feel relaxed, warm, and genuinely like your family, I’d love to photograph you.
