There is something extra special about getting to photograph a growing family more than once. Watching families come back year after year, milestone after milestone, is one of my favorite parts of being a Phoenix Arizona family photographer. This beautiful desert pregnancy announcement session near the Superstition Mountains at Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction was such a dream from start to finish.
This sweet family is expecting baby number two, and their little boy absolutely stole the show with his “big bro” hat and the cutest reactions while holding the ultrasound photos. Between the golden desert light, towering saguaro cacti, and the breathtaking views of the Superstition Mountains, this Arizona maternity and family session could not have been more perfect.
If you are looking for a Phoenix maternity photographer, Mesa family photographer, or an Arizona desert photographer for your own pregnancy announcement, the Superstition Mountains are one of my favorite locations in the East Valley.
The area surrounding Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction is one of the most iconic desert photo locations in Arizona. The soft golden light, wide open desert landscape, cactus-lined trails, and mountain views create the perfect backdrop for family sessions, maternity sessions, and pregnancy announcements.
As a Phoenix Arizona photographer, I love photographing sessions here because every direction gives beautiful scenery and warm desert tones that photograph so well year-round.
This location is especially popular for:
Families travel from all over the Valley for sessions here, including Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, Tempe, San Tan Valley, and Phoenix.

This session felt relaxed, playful, and emotional in the best way. Their son was full of personality and so excited to share the big news. Some of my favorite moments were completely candid — the laughter, the kisses, the snuggles, and the sweet little moments between mom and dad while celebrating this new season of life.
The neutral tones they chose photographed beautifully against the Arizona desert landscape. Soft creams, muted greens, and earthy textures always work so well for desert family photos in Phoenix and the surrounding East Valley.
One thing I always encourage during sessions is movement and connection over stiff posing. The best family photos happen when everyone is simply interacting naturally together. That is exactly what made this session feel so genuine and full of emotion.
One of the most common questions I get as a Phoenix family photographer is what to wear for desert sessions.
For sessions in places like the Superstition Mountains, Lost Dutchman State Park, Usery Mountain Regional Park, and the Salt River area, I always recommend:

These colors complement the Arizona desert perfectly and keep the focus on your family connection.
I photograph families all throughout Phoenix and the East Valley, including:

The Superstition Mountains and Lost Dutchman area remain one of my favorite Arizona photo locations for sunset sessions, especially for families wanting that iconic desert scenery with beautiful golden light.
