Scottsdale is one of my favorite areas in Arizona for couples photography because there are so many different ways to create a session.

You might want dramatic desert landscapes and towering saguaros.

You might prefer something more romantic and intimate.

Maybe you envision an editorial session with beautiful architecture and an elevated wardrobe.

Or perhaps you’re staying at a luxury Scottsdale resort and want your photographs to feel like part of your Arizona getaway.

There isn’t one “right” look for an engagement session.

That’s why I don’t believe in giving every couple the same location and asking them to recreate the same poses.

Instead, I want to know what you love.

That’s why two outfits are included with my couples and engagement sessions.

I recommend choosing two looks that feel different enough to give your gallery variety while still coordinating beautifully.

For example, you might choose:

Outfit One:
Something elevated and polished — a dress, skirt, tailored outfit or another look that feels a little more formal.

Outfit Two:
Something relaxed and personal, such as denim, boots, a beautiful blouse or a more casual outfit.

And if you’re struggling to figure out what to wear, you don’t have to start from scratch.

I also offer access to my client closet, giving you the option to choose from pieces I’ve specifically selected with photographs in mind.

Location makes a huge difference in the final look of your photographs.

That’s why every session includes a location guide designed to help you choose a location that fits your vibe.

If you prefer something more sophisticated, we can look at locations with architecture, resort-inspired surroundings or a more polished editorial feeling.

Preparing for Your Scottsdale Couples Photography Session

You don’t need to spend weeks preparing for your session, but a little planning can make a huge difference.

1. Choose outfits you feel amazing in

This is probably my biggest tip.

Don’t wear something simply because it’s “photogenic” if you don’t feel comfortable in it.

Instead, choose something that makes you feel confident.

For couples, I love a combination of textures, neutrals and timeless pieces. Soft blues, creams, whites, denim, earthy tones and warm neutrals photograph beautifully against the Arizona landscape.

And don’t be afraid to dress up.

This is your excuse to wear the outfit you normally save for a special occasion.

2. Coordinate — don’t match

You don’t need to wear identical colors.

Instead, think about how your outfits work together.

If one person is wearing a soft blue or neutral color, the other can incorporate complementary tones through their shirt, pants, shoes or accessories.

The goal is coordinated without looking overly planned.

3. Give yourself plenty of time

Don’t schedule your hair appointment for 30 minutes before you need to leave.

Give yourself time to get ready, change outfits, drive to the location and arrive without feeling rushed.

The calmer you feel going into your session, the more relaxed you’ll look in your photographs.

4. Bring meaningful details

Your engagement ring is an obvious one, but you can also bring something that represents your relationship.

Maybe it’s a bottle of champagne, a sentimental piece of jewelry, a favorite book, a hat, flowers or something connected to a shared hobby.

You don’t need props for the sake of having props.

Meaningful is always better than trendy.

5. Don’t worry about posing

Seriously.

You don’t need to practice Pinterest poses before your session.

I’ll guide you.

I’ll give you prompts, movement and direction throughout the session while leaving enough space for the natural moments to happen.
